Madison Bluegrass Roundabout
Tuesday July 15th
Madison's hardest working Bluegrass band, Soggy Prairie, is proud to host the Madison Bluegrass Roundabout, a monthly Tuesday night series highlighting Southern Wisconsin's Bluegrass scene. The series will feature new and upcoming bands, as well as well-established groups. Each month will feature a set from Soggy Prairie followed by a set from a guest band.
The ninth installment of the MBR will feature possibly the most exciting act yet - he's a legend of not only the Wisconsin scene, but played with the man who started this music, Bill Monroe himself. Our July Roundabout will feature the MARK HEMBREE BAND!
Mark Hembree started his music career in Wisconsin in the 1970s, and before long he was hosting a live radio show from the Glenmore Opera House near Green Bay. After a couple of years in Denver with the Monroe Doctrine, he returned to Wisconsin briefly before an audition at a local festival netted a job with Country Music Hall of Fame legend Bill Monroe, the Father of Bluegrass Music. He became a Blue Grass Boy in 1979 and worked with Monroe for five years, then was one of the founding members of the Nashville Bluegrass Band. While in Nashville he recorded with several well-known artists, including the all-star band Dreadful Snakes (with Jerry Douglas, Béla Fleck, Roland White, Blaine Sprouse, and Pat Enright) and Peter Rowan (on the Grammy-nominated album “New Moon Rising”). He returned to Wisconsin in 1989, played with local bluegrass groups the Rounders and Nob Hill Boys, and Western swing bands the Western Box Turtles (including Asleep at the Wheel steel guitarist Eddie Rivers) and his own group, the Best Westerns.

WVMO Presents: Kelly Hunt and Sarah Morgan
Thursday July 17th
Memphis-raised singer-songwriter, Kelly Hunt, paints stories as old and offbeat as her Depression-era tenor banjo and parlor guitar, reimagining traditions of folk & old-time music with innovative vigor. Interweaving poetic lyrics, lilting melodies, and intriguing arrangements, Hunt casts a spell which No Depression describes as “the musical equivalent of a book you can’t put down, one you’ll want to revisit again and again to catch every nuance and turn of phrase.” Hunt’s 2019 debut album, Even The Sparrow, was a finalist for the International Folk Music Awards “Album of the Year.” Her sophomore album, Ozark Symphony, was recorded with Grammy-winning musician & producer Dirk Powell and released on Compass Records in 2023.
She will be appearing with fellow troubadour Sarah Morgan.
$10 suggested donation. 6:30 start time.

Marigold Motel/Get Better Now
Friday July 18th
Marigold Motel checks you into a world of wistful melodies and restless energy. Drawing from surf rock, americana, and 1960's British pop their sound blends dreamy harmonies, vintage keys, and shimmering guitar lines into something both familiar and unexpected. Born from basement jam sessions and a love of retro rock, they've been called 'The Dirty Beach Boys'- a fitting name for a band that turns nostalgia into something raw, alive and electric.
Hailing from Madison, Wisconsin, Get Well Now is an indie rock band blending heartfelt lyricism with a dynamic sound shaped by influences like Pinegrove, Her’s, Modest Mouse, and early 2000s pop-punk. The group—Logan Romberger, Will Dark, Nathan Tesman, Jake Belongia, and Jeremy Wisbey—craft songs that balance emotional vulnerability with punchy, melodic energy, channeling the nostalgia of mid-2000s angst through a modern, genre-blurring lens. With raw vocals, jangly guitars, and an undercurrent of introspection, Get Well Now invites listeners into a space where catharsis and catchy hooks collide

Van Orman and Helwin
Thursday September 4th
Van Orman and Helwin play songs of love and loss, from the devout to the degenerate, with inspired vocal harmonies accompanied by an array of instruments including Viennese guitar, gourd banjo, fiddle, hurdy-gurdy, harmonium, concertina, harmonica, and jaw harp.
John C. Van Orman and Adam Helwin are singer-songwriter neighbors in the bucolic countryside of southwestern Wisconsin’s Driftless region, a place of unglaciated hills, fertile soil, and clear-running trout streams where they craft poetic songs to sing alongside traditional folk tunes and selectively curated covers.
John has roots in American and British traditional material including ballads, cowboy songs and sea shanties. Adam was raised in church choirs and molded by the DIY ethos of punk rock. These seemingly disparate backgrounds entwine to produce extraordinary music with elements of country, blues, traditional and psych-folk, restoring the original edge missing from so many interpretations.
